FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How often should a fire alarm system be serviced?

Fire alarm systems are commonly serviced twice a year by a competent engineer, with a weekly call-point test carried out by the responsible person on site and recorded in the log book. We agree a schedule with you when we take on the system.

What is the difference between a fire alarm service and a fire alarm installation?

An installation covers designing, fitting and commissioning a new system for the building. Servicing is the ongoing routine testing, inspection and fault correction that keeps an existing system dependable.

How is emergency lighting tested?

Emergency lighting is normally given a short monthly function test and a full-duration discharge test each year, checking that luminaires illuminate escape routes for their rated period and recharge correctly. Results are recorded for your records.

How often do fire extinguishers need servicing?

Portable extinguishers are usually inspected annually by an engineer, with additional extended service or replacement intervals depending on the extinguisher type. We tag and record every unit we service.

Who needs a fire risk assessment?

The responsible person for a non-domestic premises, and for the common areas of many residential buildings, needs a fire risk assessment kept up to date. It identifies hazards, the people at risk and the actions needed.

What is the difference between a wet riser and a dry riser?

A dry riser is a pipe left empty until the fire service charges it from a pumping appliance at the inlet. A wet riser is permanently charged with water, usually in taller buildings where a dry riser would not deliver enough pressure.

How often are wet and dry risers tested?

Risers are typically given a routine visual inspection through the year and a periodic pressure test, with outlets, inlets, valves and landing connections checked. We confirm the intervals for your building before work starts.

Do you work outside normal hours?

Yes. Much of our servicing is arranged around building occupancy, including evening and overnight work, and we operate a 24-hour emergency response line for faults that cannot wait.

Which areas do you cover?

We work across London and the surrounding areas. If you are unsure whether we cover your site, get in touch and we will tell you straight away.
